Lost Armadillo's Ayla

To see more pictures, please visit Zaltana's Blog

Ayla was born August 25, 2005, and is AKC and UKC registered. It's too soon to tell if she has what it takes to be bred one day. But even if she turns out not to be breeding potential, she is a perfect ambassador for this breed and my breeding program. She has a wonderful temperament. Everybody who meets her says the same thing: "She is soooo sweet". She has a very outgoing and confident personality. I just love this little girl.

Visit Ayla's Family

When we are out for a walk she usually walks right beside me. She is always thinking of new ways to earn some treats or petting. One day I couldn't find my little tool that I use to pick up doggie poop. As I walked about with my bucket wondering where the rest of my equipment is, Ayla ran off and then came back with my little tool that I was looking for. She is showing great potential to have the kind of intelligence I am looking for in an Anatolian.

Update: 8-25-06 Ayla's first birthday

My Ayla girl is one year old today. Every day I marvel at my special girl; she is such a joy. At one year old she weighs 82.5 lbs and is 28 ½ inches tall. She is a very content dog, doesn't complain about anything. She loves to have her teeth brushed and her nails done. Is always eager to do some tricks. Continues to be very friendly to people and other animals. Today some kids walked by the fence, and Ayla happily tagged along with them.

She welcomes visitors, but one time she didn't realize that I was accompanying a stranger. She just heard his voice. Boy, did she come around the corner barking. As soon as she saw that I was there too, her attitude completely changed, and she was eager to meet my "friend".

Ayla and Nanuk

She isn't a big barker. She tends to keep an eye on her surroundings, but she only barks if there is really something suspicious going on. During the day she is a lot more mellow than she is at night. Once the sun sets she becomes a lot more alert and barks much more, preferably while standing on top of the straw bales I have piled up around the property.

Update 3-14-08 Ayla is 2 1/2 years old

We have added chickens, goats and puppies to our home, and Ayla is a good guardian with the chickens and goats and patient and playful auntie with the puppies. She continues to be very social with visitors to our property. She still loves to chase leaves and pester Nanuk. She and Leydi continue to be great friends who play and race around together.

Ayla - playful

I haven't weighed her recently, my guess is that she is around 90 lbs, she is light boned, but very muscular; her smooth and glossy coat contributes to her sleek looks. She continues to be sure-footed, extremely fast and agile. She is light on her feet and when she runs she covers a lot of ground with each stride. She is fearless and nothing in the neighborhood escapes her. She is also a master snuggler and doesn't mind to come inside sometimes to curl up on the couch and let the other dogs take care of things outside. I am just really happy to have her in my life.
